About the Digital Wallpaper Assignment

Continue to work on your Digital Wallpaper Assignment –completed assignments are due next week. We will critique print outs and do a file “check” to look for and correct common pen tool mistakes.

FOR THE CLASS SESSION NEXT WEEK:

1. Report to room 220.

2. Bring your finished Digital Dueling Rhythm  and Digital Wallpaper Adobe Illustrator files to class as well as a print out.

3. Bring your USB (thumb) drive with you.

4. Homework is due at the beginning of class.

5. Class will begin with a file “check” / critique.

Directions:

1. You are to write about a composition that will allow me to assess your knowledge and skill level regarding the following:

a. How well you fully understand the vocabulary of the New Media industry.

b. How well you can accurately and skillfully communicate using the vocabulary of the New Media industry.

c. How well you understand the concepts of Design Theory.

2. Identify the following Design Elements and Principles and discuss/explain why they were the best choice to visually communicate the message and emotion of the piece.

a. Balance

b. Rhythm

c. Line

d. Unity

e. Color (Scheme, Value, Intensity, Hues)

3. To do this -write about one of the following:

a. One of your own creations;

b. One of your favorite images (art, design, illustration, animation, etc.); or

c. One of the images below.

4. Include a copy of the image with your Mid-Term Exam paper.

About the Pop Art Assignment

Thank you for your reflection papers and your development work on your final Pop Art Compositions. Today’s critique was very good and it did well to demonstrate how much you have learned about Pop Art, Pop Artists, Color Theory, as well as the imagery, motifs, methods and techniques used in Pop Art.

Continue to work on finishing up this assignment, keeping in mind that all development work and reference work are essential parts of the production of the final piece. In case you are wondering, you will be reproducing your Pop Art Compositions with digital media.

Write a reflection in your own words regarding the reflection topic below. Please make sure you have included the topic you are writing about. Your reflection should be a professional looking document –it should be typed, with complete sentences, correct grammar and spelling.

Now that you have completed several projects (Dueling Rhythm Composition, Wallpaper Composition, Subtractive Color Wheel and Color Scheme, Additive Color Wheel and Shades & Tints) discuss how you think your classmates are progressing.

Use the rating scale of Unsatisfactory, Satisfactory, Good and Exemplary.

In your discussion give one example of Exemplary work, one of Good work, one of Satisfactory Work and one of Work that is Unsatisfactory –give reasons why you have rated it that way.

Describe something that you would do to improve the work.

Describe the work to identify it.

About the October 11, 2011 Class Session

Thank you for your reflection papers and your development work on the Pop Art Compositions. Continue working on either refining your elements, compositional thumbnails, grid composition and producing your final composition. Strive to keep the craftsmanship compatible to the original work of Lichtenstein, Blake, Dine, Oldenburg and Warhol. We will conduct an “in-progress” critique next week.

To view the  Adobe Illustrator Palettes and Windows we used to mix Additives colors and their Tints and Shades click on the “Additive Color”  title found under the category “IMAGE RESOURCES” on the right hand column of this class blog.

 2. What Pop Art Methods and Techniques are you simulating in your Pop Art Composition?

a. Explain what you are doing to simulate these Methods and Techniques.

Additive Color Assignment:

Continue to work on your Additive Color Wheel and your Additive Tints and Shades until you get the colors, tints and shades just the way you want them.

FOR THE CLASS SESSION NEXT WEEK:

2. Bring your Pop Art Composition development work and your progress on the final Pop Art composition with you for a critique session.

3. Bring your final Dueling Rhythm composition to class so you can scan it
